Pinterest for Bloggers: Increase your traffic

Below are some tips for anyone who wants to increase their referral traffic from Pinterest. I have compiled tips that have contributed to steadily increasing our referral traffic!

  1. Create graphics or a series of images for each post

Understanding the ‘sharing is caring’ method is key when it comes to the pinterest/blog game. By creating graphics or groupings of images and adding it into each blog post, you’re encouraging others to save and share.

2. Use a third party “sharing” widget

I had no idea the immediate effect this would have on my blog. I used a third-party share app called share this, and I was shocked at the amount of people immediately sharing my posts to pinterest and facebook!

This is the widget we are using currently

3. Images & Apps

if you spend any time browsing through pinterest, you’ll see theres a lot of competition in the world of graphics! here are my best practices when it comes to creating and posting them on pinterest…

first and foremost, You have to ask yourself - would I click on this pin?

  • In case your blog images aren't dynamic enough, Unsplash and Pixabay both have great free images you can use on your posts. You can also buy more images from Shutterstock and Canva.

Pro tip: I use a variety of my own image AND unsplash throughout all my articles and pinterest pins. Why? I find i can tell a better story! in my recent article 15 BEST INSTAGRAM SPOTS IN NYC, I found we had amazing images of me at each location, but we needed a showcase image of the location itself. I was able to find stunning photo ‘sans moi’ that helped tell the story of each nyc location highlighted in the blog.

4. Find The Trends

this is the sexiest thing pinterest offers its users, you can see what is trending this week..
simply go to trends.pinterest.com https://trends.pinterest.com/ to find exactly what people are looking for.

where this gets even better (and more specific) you can search pins in your niche! It’s incredibly detailed and so user-friendly. Additionally, this is a fantastic tool to help you create new blog articles! Pinterest is one of the most analytically driven sights in the world. It makes it the perfect place to do keyword research and find out what people are looking for each season.

these analytics are in the first week of November, yet Christmas and ‘winter aesthetics’ are reigning supreme.

5. review your Pin Stats

Whatver is working, do more of that! but be patient as well, some pins make take up to 365 days before they start ranking. Think of pinterest as the “long game” in social media! Just stay patient, and stay active!
